Welcome to the Thurrock Art Society web site.

Thurrock Art Society was founded in 1970.

Members spend their evenings painting, drawing or socialising with other people of like interest.

The meetings are held at St. Peter and St. Paul's Church Hall, High Street, Grays Town Centre, RM17 6LN on Friday evenings  (apart from the last Friday of each month) between 7.00 and 9.00 p.m throughout the year.

The society welcomes new members (over the age of 18) whether amateur, professional or semi -professional. It endeavours to foster an interest in all aspects of visual art.

There is a yearly programme with several demonstrations and workshops by professional artists.

There are normally three exhibitions a year at various venues in the borough, such as The Thameside complex in Grays, The RSPB, Rainham Marshes and, more recently, venues in local pubs and restaurants.

Coach outings are arranged to exhibitions, galleries, art and craft materials shows and other places of interest. We also schedule evenings where we all work together either on a still life or live model set up, or we sketch each other in what we refer to as, 'speed portrait dating' as each sketch is set for 15 minutes before moving on to the next person.

There is an annual subscription, which is currently £40.00.

The Society is a member of the Visual Art Sub-Committee of 'Arts Thurrock' (previously known as Thurrock Arts Council) to whom it is affiliated and from whom it gains considerable support in the form of an annual grant. It is also a member of the  'SAA' (previously known as the Society for All Artists, but in recent years has dropped the word 'Society' from it's title, but is still referred to as 'SAA'); an international society with members in over 60 countries.

You can also follow our regular updates @ThurrockArt on Twitter.

The Society is proud to support St Luke's Hospice through donations taken annually at its Christmas party.
